Jody, thanks for jumping right in with such a tough question. Thank you, (laughing). The state of our Apple Laptop bags is good right now, (laughs again).
Given how much the market has changed over the last 20 years, how steep the competition has gotten, and the fact that we are still here, we must be doing something right. Do we still offer the same range of styles in Apple Laptop bags as we did 10 or 15 years ago? No, we don’t have a nylon line. Our leather line has surpassed what we used to do.
Through our nylon line, we’ve taken all our years of experience making the best Apple Laptop bags, sleeves and backpacks and distilled that knowledge into a series of form factors.
Clients like internationally famous music producer Joseph Watt write to tell me how much they love our current generation nylon backpack. As he shared, he takes it around the world and can’t live without it. We might hear from a professional photographer or animator about how our current nylon messenger bag is working for them.
Now, I believe it’s more important to have a few excellently designed nylon pieces that work for real creative, professional people in the real world than to have 20 assorted MacBook Pro bags that fill shelves.
The Foundation of a Apple Laptop Bag
JKD – That’s an interesting way to describe their current line. Could you elaborate a bit on that?
MS – I don’t really like having many solutions to what is essentially the same problem. This article discusses how to protect and transport Apple MacBook Pro laptops. Throughout the past decade, we have done that with our nylon line. It worked for a while. The solution worked perfectly.
Apple’s laptop offerings are closer in size than at almost any other time in their history. Our nylon MacBook bags benefit greatly from this. With all this time, we know our customers, we know what their needs are, we know the environments they are moving through, and we know what appeals to them regarding functionality.
With the MacCase nylon line, you get incredible value for your money. We have so many hardcore, professional travelers, artists, designers, and producers who love our stuff because of this. They can afford any bag they want, but they buy a $60 MacCase MacBook bag that has all the features of the $100 or $120 bag they are shopping for. They get it.
The Apple LAptop bags were designed and engineered to compete with bags twice as expensive. For all of them, that was the design brief. We must offer a “value-added” design.
Goals for Our Apple Laptop Bags
JKD – So, what were the goals of these Apple Laptop bags?
Our goal is to solve a broad range of problems with a very select group of form factors. To accomplish this, we don’t need dozens of models. We spent a lot of time developing the new Universal designs. Because we knew they would be the backbone of our nylon line, we made them as good as we could.
The same philosophy is used by car manufacturers to build more efficient cars. In order to build every car the company makes, they might have two basic chassis. The company uses chassis 1 for small and medium-sized cars, trucks, and SUVs, and chassis 2 for large cars, trucks, and SUVs. The key is to have world-class foundations and chassis. That’s what we did with our Apple Laptop bags.
Then, we tweaked and enhanced them to make them even better and more Apple specific. The wheel didn’t need to be reinvented. Our base bags were excellent, so that’s what we used.
JKD – What are the current Apple laptop bags like?
